CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY 2001

Janet Grams, President of the Arizona Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, laying a rose at the U.D.C.'s Arizona Confederate Veterans Monument in Wesley Bolen Park (across from the State Capitol Building in downtown Phoenix, Arizona).

 

Larry Hammack, Adjutant of the Captain Granville Henderson Oury Camp 1708, Sons of Confederate Veterans (Scottsdale, Arizona) reads a poem in honour of the Confederate Battle Flag and the men who fought and died under it.

 

Tom Tatum, Commander of the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525, Sons of Confederate Veterans, lays a wreath at the Confederate Veterans Monument on behalf of Camp 1525 and the Arizona Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans.

 

The Honour Guard, consisting of members of the 5th Texas Infantry and 1st U.S. Infantry, Arizona Civil War Council, as well as members of the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 and Captain Granville Henderson Oury Camp 1708, Sons of Confederate Veterans.  S.C.V. members shown are Larry Hammack (on the far left end), Adjutant of Camp 1708; Robert Perkins (third from the left, just to the left of the flag), Secretary, Camp 1525; and Ron Fox (fifth from the left, just to the right of the flag), Commander, Camp 1708.

 

The Honour Guard fires one of three volleys in salute to the Confederate dead.

 

The U.D.C. placed roses in the barrels of the rifles of all the members of the Honour Guard after the ceremony.
